In this video interview, Mark Kersten, Senior Consultant at the Wayamo Foundation, and Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of the Fraser Valley in British Columbia, Canada talks about the concept of universal jurisdiction and how it has been applied in the last decade in international criminal trials across Europe. He further talks about the potential that universal jurisdiction may offer in contexts where recourse to other justice mechanisms is not available, stressing the fact that every State can exercise universal jurisdiction after adopting legislation recognizing the relevant crimes and authorising their prosecution.
