Two veteran journalists and Wayamo Foundation colleagues Joseph Roberts-Mensah (Ghana) and Judie Kaberia (Kenya) explore the concept of conflict-sensitive reporting, and how it has shaped their careers and provided a framework for reporting during peacetime, social unrest, and war.
They recount experiences from working in conflict zones and in the aftermath of disputed elections, and discuss how reporting on violence and trauma has changed their approaches to their work. They also discuss the relentless pressures faced by journalists as they navigate tight deadlines, meet editorial expectations, and maneuver through complex political climates and conflicts, and how journalists can ensure their safety and that of the people they report on.
