Wayamo Roundtable Discussion: Exploring alternative paths to justice in Sudan

Exploring alternative paths to justice in Sudan

On 5 August 2022, the Wayamo Foundation held an online roundtable discussion with Sudanese lawyers and human rights experts entitled: “Exploring alternative paths to justice”. Together, participants examined potential avenues of domestic accountability ranging from traditional forums of justice, Khartoum based civil/criminal courts and Juba Peace Agreement challenges.

In March 2022, Wayamo launched the “Capacity building for civil society and the justice sector in Sudan” project. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of civil society and legal actors in Sudan as they participate in the transitional justice process. Individuals will be trained in international criminal law, international humanitarian law and human rights, and will be given the knowledge required to handle serious-crime cases that come before the courts, in a manner that is both competent and effective.

The Wayamo Foundation is an independent, non-profit organisation established to strengthen the rule of law, promote justice for international crimes and foster transparency through judicial capacity building, mediation and informed journalism.
The Sudan Justice Hub is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands and the German Federal Foreign Office.
